Dupont Circle in Washington, DC
Dupont Circle is one of the most significant and well-known neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Located less than one mile from the White House, this highly walkable community hosts several embassies, as well as the residences of many political figures and government officials.
Named after Civil War hero Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Dupont, Dupont Circle has a long and colorful history as a center for progressive thinking and social activism. While the neighborhood has somewhat mellowed over the years, it has retained a vibrant and trendsetting vibe that has made it one of the most popular and sought-after communities in DC.
Dupont Circle has a population of around 10,500, but it is principally a commercial and transportation hub. During the day, DC’s residents, congregate here to work, shop, and eat; and at night, the neighborhood comes alive with the evening crowd enjoying its many bars, restaurants, and entertainment spots.

The median household income is around $112,000, which is considerably higher than the US median of around $85,000. About two-thirds of the adult population have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Things to do in and around Dupont Circle
The neighborhood is rich in cultural attractions, with museums, historic houses, and long-standing establishments found around the community. Among the top attractions here are
The Phillips Collection, considered the first museum of modern art in the US;
Mansion on O Street an art center featuring a variety of exhibits, events, and performances;
President Woodrow Wilson’s Georgian Revival Home; the historic
Anderson House; and so much more. Dupont Circle, the neighborhood’s traffic circle, is a favorite haunt for locals, and the Dupont Circle Fountain is one of DC’s most important landmarks.
Connecticut Avenue is where you’ll find many of Dupont Circle’s excellent restaurants, bars, and shops, many of which count among the best in the capital. Massachusetts Avenue is known for Embassy Row, a 2-mile stretch that hosts various embassies and diplomatic missions from around the world.
